Frans Hamburgers on S. Congress Ave. and Mary St. is finally complete as the popular SOCO character that is Fran is secured to the red-covered awning after nearly two years since it was badly damaged in a storm that ripped through downtown Austin. Retired ironworker Mark Cofford, here attaching the serving tray with her trademark hamburger, helped owner Mike Junk with the installation. “35 years and still rocking.” said Junk.

“This thing was in pieces, but we finished it.” said Mike Junk, whose mother Fran is the principal owner. Junk refurbished the piece himself and added a few extra touches to the guitar and custom jewelry.

Owner Mike Junk uses a lift to raise the serving tray with her trademark hamburger as the last piece to the sculpture. “We’ve had so many people stop by to take pictures. This is Austin.” said Junk.
