Evelyn Road, a lonely patch of rural road in Creedmoor, TX., proved deadly Friday evening at sunset as Geraldo Corona, 11, was walking with his friend when he was struck and killed by a motorist, who later was charged with drunken driving. He was just yards away from his front door as his father and older brother worked on their home. The small two-lane road southeast of Austin has residents crying out for help to ease the cut-through speeders finding a shorter way to reach U.S. Highway 183. Police paint marks the scene of the tragic accident Saturday afternoon, where witnesses say Corona was thrown out of his shoes as he died instantly.

Resident of the road Harry Rivera has called the police office, county commissioner and constable seeking help with traffic. The accident happened in front of his metal gate and he was among the first on the scene checking for a pulse on Geraldo.  There was none. He was 11 years old.

This is a family photo of Geraldo, left, and his older brother Luis. Luis, who had been working outside with his father, heard the accident noise and ran to the scene knowing his brother was walking along the road.
