Always Trying to Help

Joseph Hopson pulls his shopping cart through the streets of downtown Austin on a cold morning as he searches for aluminum cans to make a few extra dollars to help some friends living on the streets this holiday season. Hopson sometimes lives in east Austin in a house he shares with others, and after serving 20 years in the military he now walks the streets squeezing out a living and helping others less fortunate. Its people like Joseph who rekindle the holiday spirit in me. He is more worried about his friends than himself and even when denied veteran services because of paperwork issues, he’s not bothered by it. “I hope to fix it soon. Until then what can I do.” says Hopson. “I’m out here to help some friends.” Enough said!
