American Coots use their feet for propulsion as they run on top of the water ponds at the Hornsby Bend Treatment Center in southeast Austin gearing for takeoff. The ponds are a haven for bird watchers and migrating birds alike. If you ever have the opportunity to view birds in flight I would suggest some binoculars and a steady hand. It is quite a sight. Also the retention ponds on Hornsby Bend offer good birding and is open from sun up to sun down everyday. It might not smell all that great, so beware.
