The City of Austin Fire Department held the Swearing-In and Change of Command ceremony honoring new Fire Chief Rhoda Mae Kerr at City Hall Friday afternoon. Kerr, right, became Austin’s first female fire chief and assumes the duties from Assistant Chief Jim Evans, left, during the Changing of Command and ceremonial passing of the fire department flag. Kerr came to Austin from Little Rock, Arkansas and has wowed department heads from the beginning, coming across as personable and energetic.

Chief Kerr’s grand niece Maddy Cheney, 9, using a step stool, did the badge pinning and receives a big hug during the ceremony.
