Meet Mario, an Eastsider Who Loves to Dumpster Dive

His name is Mario Saenz and he is not homeless. He likes to dive into dumpsters to see what he can find and trade for money. Today finds him at the Chalmer’s Courts on E. 3rd St. “I find aluminum cans, which I get .30 cents per pound and sometimes cooper wire.” said Saenz, who claims to walk about 20 miles a day. On this dive, he found tea bags neatly wrapped in a baggie, a Karate uniform complete with several colored belts, a few cans, and a Christmas wreath. When asked what he’ll do with the old wreath he responded, “I’ll plug it in to see if it works and use it next season.”
