University of Texas students held a rally in support of the National Dream Act, a bipartisan proposed federal bill that would create a path to citizenship via professional education for undocumented young people. The groups University Leadership Initiative, Longhorn LULAC and University Democrats joined together to host the rally and then deliver a letter from Texas Senator Leticia Van de Putte to encourage University President Bill Powers to take a public stance on the issue. Lorena Tule, left, and Alejandra Salinas, right, ¬†lead the group with letter in hand to Powers’ office in the main building. I was impressed with the eagerness to support political issues that are dear to you personally and these young students were indeed passionate about providing educational opportunities for undocumented families. A quality education can mean the difference in anyone’s life and who is to say you can or cannot attend the best universities in this country.
