Hundreds of Common Grackles, large, lanky blackbirds with long legs and long tails, line the utility poles along Riverside Drive and Lamar Blvd near sunset. You’ll often find these birds in large flocks, flying or foraging on lawns and in agricultural fields, but in Austin mostly where they are not wanted. In parking lot trees disgracing your car windshield. They strut on their long legs, pecking for food rather than scratching and create a high-pitched song that is sure to unsettle the calmest of nerves. You’ve seen them. If not you will.

    • Thanks, if you are ever in the vicinity, its an amazing sight. Kind of reminds of Hitchcock’s “Birds”.
