When I got the call about an elderly man being stung numerous times by a swarm of bees I asked if I could shoot it from my car. Knowing that wasn’t possible I had to ask anyway. Austin emergency personnel responded to an elderly man who was mowing grass at 1100 E. 13th St. when he disturbed a swarm of displaced bees and was stung numerous times leaving him down in the street and unresponsive when medics arrived. Austin firefighters from Engine 1 Special Operations doned bee suits and retrieved the elderly man from the scene so EMS could treat and transport him safely. Firefighters search the lot for any signs of where the bee hive might have been displaced.
