Drought Conditions Causing Havoc in Austin With Water Pipe Breakage

The city of Austin water utility has seen a rise in water main breaks due to the ultra dry weather conditions caused by the drought. Water pipeline repair crews have been averaging nearly 100 main breaks a week and today Crew 7W 31 fixes this 8-inch main on FM 973 at Moore’s Bridge Road in southeast Austin near ABIA. Worker Edgar Colunga, right, uses the clean water leaking from the pipe to cool his head while he waits for the repair pipe to be cut to finish the repair. Co-worker Jeffrey Romero is behind him.
