There is always a sure fire way to beat the summer heat in Austin and it involves water. Mac, a one year-old labrador and golden retriever mix, takes a reprieve from the midday heat by plunging up to his head in the cool waters of Lady Bird Lake by Austin High School near downtown. His owner Taylor Smith, who had to use the lease to get Mac out, was on a five-mile run on the Roy and Ann Butler Hike and Bike trail when the water came calling. “It’s his natural habitat.” said Smith. And by the way the temperature hit 103º.
